Pitt County — Two adults have been arrested after a 5-year-old child was hospitalized with an apparent gunshot wound, according to the Pitt County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities say deputies responded to reports of shots fired into an occupied residence at 5531 Rivercreek Drive, located in the Pitt County portion of Washington, North Carolina.
Before deputies arrived, the child was transported to ECU Health Beaufort with an apparent gunshot wound to an extremity. Due to the severity of the injury, the child was later transferred to ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville for additional medical care.
During the investigation, detectives obtained evidence confirming that the shooting occurred inside the home, contradicting the initial report that shots had been fired into the residence from outside.
Arrests and Charges
Following the investigation, deputies arrested two individuals:
Christine C. Godley, 22
The child’s mother was charged with:
- Accessory After the Fact: Assault with a Deadly Weapon Inflicting Serious Bodily Injury
- Accessory After the Fact: Intentional Child Abuse Inflicting Serious Bodily Injury
Godley was arrested on February 7 and booked into the Pitt County Detention Center without bond, as she was already on pre-trial release for unrelated charges.
Jaquan M. Taylor
Godley’s boyfriend was charged with:
- Assault with a Deadly Weapon Inflicting Serious Bodily Injury
- Intentional Child Abuse Inflicting Serious Bodily Injury
- Possession of a Firearm by a Felon
Taylor was arrested on February 8 and was also booked into the Pitt County Detention Center without bond due to being on pre-trial release for unrelated charges.
