CBS Scandals
Since CBS Channel’s founding nearly 100 years ago, it has been part of the big 3 largest broadcasting networks in America and thus has had its fair share of scandals.
One of the most iconic was back in 1955 when “The $64,000 Question” became an instant favorite amongst viewers across the nation.
On this show, contestants would answer questions on various topics and win money that could double with every harder question.
However, excitement soon turned to disappointment as by 1959 cheating was revealed among contestants who had been briefed beforehand.
Once comprehensive laws were put into place regarding these issues, the show was mercifully canceled.
Through it all CBS Channel has stood tall, navigating through these scandals with grace and class!
Charlie Rose and the #metoo movement
Charlie Rose was on a roll when it came to success as an anchor for CBS’s Nightwatch in 1984, winning multiple awards and making his coworkers jealous of him.
But, unbeknownst to many, Charlie’s reputation was reportedly marred by his inappropriate actions. It appears Charlie would walk around the office naked, grab female staff members, and make lewd comments to people who worked alongside him.
Strangely enough, Charlie seemed to get away with exhibiting this type of behavior for thirty years until the #metoo movement was born in 2018.
That’s when Charlie finally got the justice he deserved – he got fired from the network that employed him all those years despite his seemingly out-of-bounds behavior.
Does this mean nobody had any idea what Charlie was doing or that CBS knew and simply chose not to do anything about it? We may never know!
CBS reported on George W. Bush’s back by forged documents
CBS’s Evening News anchor Dan Rather sparked a controversy in 2004 when CBS reported on George W. Bush and his place in the Texas Army National Guard which was backed up by false documents.
It was eventually uncovered that the documents used were written in a font that was impossible to have existed back in 1973, making them fake.
This story broke during an election year for Bush, causing an uproar among his supporters. Despite such a major setback, this is but one example of how news can be filtered and be used to present truths or deceive people from the truth.
It’s shocking to think about and it should make us all conscious of what we are watching and following!
