A tragic incident involving a fatal shot at a party has led to a murder charge, following the death of a former Greensboro football player. On Tuesday, the Guilford County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the arrest of a suspect in connection with the shooting.

Former Clemson Player Dies After Fatal Shot at Party

Diondre Overton, 26, known for his achievements as a wide receiver and cornerback at Page High School in Greensboro before playing for Clemson University, lost his life in this incident. During his time at Clemson, Overton made a name for himself, scoring seven touchdowns, rushing for 777 yards, and achieving 52 receptions with an average of 14.9 receptions, as reported by ESPN.

Details of the Fatal Shot at Party in Greensboro

The tragic event occurred in the early hours of September 7th. Around 2:30 a.m., deputies from the Guilford County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a loud party and noise disturbance at the 3200 block of Spring Mill Road. Upon arriving at the scene, authorities discovered the fatal shot at the party had occurred, leaving Overton as the victim. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Suspect Arrested in Connection with Fatal Shot at Party

The GCSO Major Crimes Investigative Unit swiftly took action following the incident. Detectives secured a warrant for 20-year-old Jeremiah Diago Blanks, charging him with felony first-degree murder. Authorities, with the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Service, tracked Blanks to Michigan, where he was arrested in Detroit.

Currently, Blanks is being held in the Oakland County Jail in Pontiac, Michigan, awaiting extradition to face charges in Guilford County.
