( WGHP)-Hurricane Milton has re-strengthened to a Category 5 storm as it approaches Florida’s west coast, with maximum sustained winds of 165 mph. Milton is expected to weaken to a category 4 hurricane until just before landfall, when it drop on late Wednesday night, likely as a Category 3 hurricane near Tampa, bringing potential storm surges of 10 to 15 feet.
Local Forecast; Hurricane Milton.
As Milton moves into eastern gulf of Mexico, the environment will be less favourable for it to maintain it’s intensity. Evacuations are underway, and significant rainfall—up to 18 inches—is anticipated across central Florida, exacerbating recovery efforts from Hurricane Helene just weeks prior. Residents are urged to prepare for widespread power outages and hazardous conditions.
