DURHAM, N.C. – A tragic shooting late Sunday night at a gas station near downtown Durham has left one woman dead, and police have arrested a gas station employee in connection with the incident.
The victim, 34-year-old Chaquila Little, was found by Durham police near 900 Fayetteville Street, outside the Citgo gas station and Jack’s In and Out Mart, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. According to witnesses, Little was shot six times at close range near the store’s entrance. She was transported to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after.
Gas Station Employee Arrested for the Fatal Shooting
Durham police arrested 30-year-old Braham Pugh in connection with the shooting. Witnesses and customers reported that Pugh worked at the gas station, though the store manager confirmed he was not on duty at the time of the incident.
The tragic event has heightened concerns for local business owners, who have seen a rise in violent incidents in the area. Just months earlier, a three-year-old boy was shot at a Walgreens on the same street, and another woman was shot nearby in June.
This latest incident brings the total number of homicides in Durham to at least 26 this year. Over 185 people have been shot, including 29 women, highlighting ongoing safety concerns in the community.
