RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — North Carolina has seen record numbers in early voter turnout, with over 4 million ballots cast. This year, Republicans have led the way, marking a shift from past trends where Democrats traditionally held the early voting lead.
Republicans Show Strong Presence in Early Voter Turnout
Women have been key contributors to this surge, with female voters making up over half of the ballots cast as of Friday morning. Among the over 2 million women participating, Alexandra Lyon, a Wake County voter, shared her reasons for casting her ballot early. “Just trying to avoid any issues on Election Day,” Lyon said, noting that her personal priorities, including economic concerns, influenced her decision.
Republicans currently boast over 1.3 million ballots cast, making them the largest single voting group so far in the state’s early voting cycle.
Democrats and Unaffiliated Voters Keep the Race Competitive
While Republicans hold the lead, Democrats are not far behind, trailing by about 50,000 ballots. Among notable groups in the Democratic vote, nearly 100,000 Hispanic voters have participated, a group that could be instrumental in the election. Unaffiliated voters, North Carolina’s largest voter block, also show significant early voter turnout, positioning themselves as potential swing voters in a tight race.
