Fire Hits Residential Building On S. Elm St. in HP

Firefighters responded to a fire at a residential high-rise building on South Elm Street in High Point, North Carolina, Tuesday afternoon. The fire broke out at Elm Towers, an elderly and disabled community.

Transformer Fire Causes Smoke

According to the High Point Fire Department, a large transformer that supplies power to an outside generator caught fire. It only took crews a few minutes to put out the flames.

Although the fire proved not to be a structural one and nobody was injured in the fire, a light haze of smoke reached all floors of the building. As a precautionary measure, sheltering in place was recommended in several rooms of the residents while other residents were evacuated.
