GREENSBORO, N.C. — How did a night of celebration turn into a nightmare for so many families? That’s the question now hanging heavy over the Greensboro community after gunshots shattered what should have been a peaceful celebration.
The parent, who spoke with FOX8 News, said they were enjoying the festivities when chaos suddenly erupted. Crowds of people began screaming and running in all directions as the sound of gunfire broke through the music and laughter. The parent described grabbing their children tightly and fleeing the scene, doing everything possible to protect them.
“I was just holding onto my babies,” the parent said, still shaken from the experience. “I didn’t know where to go. I just ran and prayed they’d be safe.”

Police responded quickly, but the damage was already done—not just to bodies, but to trust. No clear details have been released about who fired or why. And the silence since then is just as painful.

City officials have not yet made a formal statement regarding the shooting, but police say they are reviewing surveillance footage and speaking with witnesses to find those responsible.
