GREENSBORO, N.C. — July 17, 2025
The family of Larry Burton, a 74-year-old grandfather from Greensboro, is pleading for help as the search for him stretches into its third week.
Burton was last seen on July 2 near a care facility on Moody Street.
According to family members, he suffers from dementia and is diabetic, raising serious concerns for his safety. His sudden disappearance has shaken his loved ones and drawn support from across the community.
“He’s a very great guy,” said his grandson, Amare Swift. “He never bothers a soul. This isn’t like him. We want him home.” Swift described the past few weeks as heartbreaking, saying the family has searched on foot day and night, handed out flyers, and reached out to every contact they could think of.
The search has grown beyond family efforts. Friends, neighbours, and volunteers from around the area have stepped in to help. Search dogs have been deployed. Drones have flown overhead. Even horses have been used to cover wider ground. Still, there has been no trace of Burton.
Missing 74-Year-Old Greensboro Man
“I couldn’t believe it when I saw the post saying he was missing,” said family friend Carla Jenne. “At first, I thought it was a joke. But then it hit me—he’s gone.”
In a renewed effort, the family has organised a major search operation for Saturday at 9:30 a.m. Volunteers are asked to gather at 816 South Elm Street to help comb the area. The family says any information could help bring their grandfather home, no matter how small.
Anyone who may have seen Larry Burton or has information is urged to contact the Greensboro Police Department immediately.
