GREENSBORO, N.C. — July 22, 2025
The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) has confirmed that it is not launching a full investigation into former Greensboro City Attorney Chuck Watts, following public concerns and rumours.
Earlier this month, questions were raised about certain financial transactions involving Watts while he served as city attorney. The Greensboro Police Department shared information with the SBI, but after reviewing the matter, the SBI decided not to proceed with a full investigation.
In a public statement, the Guilford County District Attorney’s Office also confirmed that it did not request an investigation. They explained that after reviewing the documents and the concerns raised, there wasn’t enough evidence to justify a formal inquiry.
Investigation Into Former City Attorney
Chuck Watts, who resigned earlier this year, has not been charged with any crime. City officials said the information shared with law enforcement was part of routine procedure and was not tied to any criminal case.
The confirmation from the SBI puts an end to speculation about a possible investigation and clears the way for the city to move forward.
