Charlotte, N.C. — A groundbreaking new school that uses artificial intelligence to personalize education is set to open in Charlotte for the 2025-26 school year. Named Alpha School, this is the first-of-its-kind AI-powered school coming to Charlotte, promising to transform how kids learn core subjects like math, reading, language, and science and it’s set to open in October for students in grades K-3.
How the AI-Powered School Coming to Charlotte Will Work
Founded in Austin, Texas, in 2014 by MacKenzie Price, Alpha School was born from a mother’s frustration with traditional classrooms struggling to meet each child’s unique learning pace. Price explains that managing 20-plus students with different abilities is “impossible” for teachers to tailor learning effectively.
At Alpha School, artificial intelligence will guide students through self-paced lessons, adapting to their individual learning levels across various subjects. For example, a third grader who reads at a first-grade level but excels in math can advance in each subject according to their skills. This personalized approach provides real-time insights for students, parents, and teachers to track progress precisely.
Initially, Alpha School will operate within extra classroom space at Guidepost Montessori in Charlotte’s University area, enrolling about 25 students in grades K-3 for its first year. The rest of the day focuses on hands-on activities designed to develop essential life skills like teamwork and creativity, preparing students for success in a rapidly changing world.
“With AI helping with academics, we now have more time to nurture the life skills that truly matter,” Price said.
