MOUNT AIRY, N.C. — Rallies for, against Donald Trump meet in Mount Airy on Labor Day, drawing two opposing groups to the intersection of Pine Street and Main Street. What began as a planned demonstration against the former president quickly turned into a face-to-face scene with counterprotesters who gathered in support of Trump.
According to The Mount Airy News, the anti-Trump rally had been scheduled in downtown Mount Airy to coincide with the Labor Day holiday. In response, Trump supporters organized their own counter-rally at the same location.
Video footage from the event shows both groups standing across from one another, waving signs and chanting. At one point, both sides were heard shouting “USA” in unison, underscoring the charged but patriotic atmosphere at the gathering.
Rallies Clashed in Mount Airy on Labor Day Against Trump
Local police were present in the area to monitor the situation and ensure that the demonstrations remained peaceful. No major incidents or arrests were reported as of Monday evening.
Mount Airy has seen political demonstrations before, but the turnout on Labor Day highlighted how strongly divided opinions about Trump remain in parts of North Carolina. For some residents, the rallies were a chance to voice opposition to Trump’s policies and political influence. In contrast, for others, it was an opportunity to show continued loyalty to the former president.
