
GOLDSBORO, N.C. – Tragedy struck on Friday morning when 2 people in wheelchairs were hit by a vehicle in North Carolina, leaving one person dead and another hospitalized, according to the Goldsboro Police Department.
The crash happened around 10 a.m. in the 1500 block of South John Street. When officers arrived, they found a 45-year-old woman, Cheniko Pugh, and a man, both in wheelchairs, suffering from severe injuries after being struck by a northbound vehicle on the two-lane road.
Emergency responders pronounced Pugh dead at the scene, while the male victim was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. His current condition has not been released.
Investigation Details
Police say the female driver was traveling north on John Street when her vehicle struck the two pedestrians. Investigators confirmed that impairment was not a factor in the crash.
Authorities closed South John Street between Littleton Place and Shamrock Avenue for nearly 11 hours as officers conducted a full investigation and secured the crash scene.
At this time, no information has been released regarding potential charges against the driver.
