WASHINGTON (AP) — Former President Joe Biden is receiving radiation and hormone therapy to treat prostate cancer, marking a new phase in his battle with the aggressive disease, according to a statement released Saturday by his spokesperson, Kelly Scully.
“As part of a treatment plan for prostate cancer, Joe Biden is currently undergoing radiation therapy and hormone treatment,” Scully said.
The 82-year-old former president was diagnosed with prostate cancer earlier this year, several months after leaving office. His team previously confirmed that the cancer had spread to his bones, following reports of urinary symptoms that prompted further medical evaluation.
Biden, who ended his reelection bid last year after concerns over his health and age, had previously undergone surgery in May to remove skin cancer lesions from his forehead. His current treatment regimen combines radiation and hormone therapy, a standard approach for managing advanced, aggressive prostate cancers.

According to Biden’s post-presidential office, his Gleason score was 9, placing his condition among the most serious forms of the disease. Medical experts note that such cancers tend to grow and spread more rapidly, requiring intensive therapy.
Despite the aggressive treatment plan, sources close to the former president say he remains in good spirits and continues to receive regular monitoring from his medical team.
Biden’s health journey continues to draw national attention as he navigates post-presidency life while undergoing radiation and hormone therapy to treat prostate cancer.
