CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Charlotte school therapist was arrested on an attempted murder charge following a domestic violence investigation, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.
Authorities say 43-year-old Cheryl Gates, a pediatric occupational therapist with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, was taken into custody on Friday after detectives interviewed her regarding the case.
Gates is charged with attempted murder, contaminating food or drink to render one mentally incapacitated, stalking, and property damage.
Police confirmed that Gates was initially charged with stalking and property damage earlier in the week and released on a $5,000 bond before new evidence led to additional charges.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools have not yet commented on Gates’ current employment status. The investigation remains ongoing.
