Body Found in Landing Gear of Plane at Charlotte Airport

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Authorities have confirmed that a body found in the landing gear of a plane at Charlotte Douglas International Airport has been identified as 25-year-old Jose Joaquin De Leon Santiz.

According to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, airport officials discovered the body around 9 a.m. on Sunday, September 28, while performing maintenance on an American Airlines flight that had arrived from Europe.

Santiz was pronounced dead at the scene, and the Guatemalan Consulate notified his next of kin, officials said.

American Airlines released a statement saying it is cooperating fully with law enforcement. The FBI has taken over the investigation, which remains active and ongoing.
