16-year-old Charged With Murder After Killing a Man at Greensboro Apartment

A surprising event of a 16-year-old charged with murder following a shooting incident that claimed the life of a 30-year-old man in Greensboro, North Carolina. 

The 16-year-old, whose identity was withheld since he is a minor, was taken into custody on August 2nd and is currently being held in a juvenile detention centre.

The tragic incident occurred on the 19th at about 10 a.m. when the Greensboro police responded to a call about a shooting victim who had been driven to Greensboro Fire Station 5 on Westover Terrace.

The victim, later identified as Christopher Bennet—who had been shot—explained that the whole event occurred at an apartment in the 2200 block of West Cornwallis Drive, also home to another victim.

Bennet was taken to a local hospital for treatment, but the second victim has not been named and was pronounced dead at the scene.

It did not appear that Bennet’s injuries were life-threatening; he was treated and later released from the hospital.

Charges and Investigation: 16-year-old Charged With Murder

The 16-year-old suspect was charged with first-degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon with the intent to kill, inflicting serious injury. These charges were filed on August 2, the same day the teenager had been taken into custody.

The Greensboro Police Department has led the inquiry into the shooting and has assured the public that there is no lingering danger to the community. The motive of the shooter and the relationship of the suspect to the victims, if any, are not disclosed at this point.
