RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris will be visiting Raleigh on Friday to deliver her first policy-centered speech since becoming the candidate, according to her campaign.
The current vice president will be tackling ways to lower costs, a concern that routinely tops voters’ lists.
Harris was originally scheduled to make a stop in Raleigh last Thursday with running mate Tim Walz but had to postpone the visit due to Tropical Storm Debby. It’s unclear if Walz will be joining her in Raleigh this time.
The visit marks Harris’ eighth trip to North Carolina this year, highlighting the state’s importance as a battleground in the upcoming election. North Carolina is considered a critical target for Democrats, and Harris’s campaign is confident as they approach the November 5 election against Republican nominee Donald Trump.
Addressing Economic Challenges: Kamala Harris Visiting Raleigh
In her speech, Harris is expected to outline her plans to address economic challenges, including inflation and price gouging, which she has identified as top priorities since taking on her new role.
The event follows a previous engagement that Harris had to cancel due to Tropical Storm Debby.
The visit comes as polls have tightened between Donald Trump and Harris. The Republican nominee is also scheduled to visit North Carolina this week, with a stop in Asheville on Wednesday.
Trump plans to discuss how the Biden administration has harmed North Carolinians with high prices and a soaring cost of living.
Harris’s visit to Raleigh is part of a larger campaign strategy that includes a four-day, seven-city tour of key battleground states. The tour will take her to Savannah, Philadelphia, Western Wisconsin, Detroit, Phoenix, and Las Vegas, in addition to Raleigh.
The vice president has made two previous trips to North Carolina in July alone, visiting Greensboro and Fayetteville. In Greensboro, she called Biden “a fighter,” while in Fayetteville, she touted the Biden-Harris administration’s accomplishments for everyday American people.
