Binghampton Nightclub Shooting: Two Men Killed, One Brutally Injured

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — An overnight shooting at a nightclub in the Highland Heights area has resulted in two fatalities and one injury, marking a tragic incident in the community. The Binghampton nightclub shooting occurred at James Lounge along Summer Avenue near Pope Street around 1:30 a.m. on Wednesday morning.

Memphis Police responded promptly to the scene, where they discovered two men pronounced dead and another victim in critical condition, who was transported to Regional One Hospital.

The aftermath of the shooting left several vehicles in the parking lot riddled with bullet holes, highlighting the severity of the violence.

Witnesses in the area, including Angela Morgan, who lives nearby, described the chaotic scene. “We heard the police pushing the people away.

We heard the gunshots and people running,” Morgan recounted. She spoke with a woman who claimed the shooting was part of a drive-by incident.

Local residents expressed mixed feelings about the nightclub’s role in the violence. While some believe the issue lies within the neighbourhood itself, others argue that the nightclub attracts trouble. “It’s not the club so much. It’s the neighbourhood.

It’s somebody out here getting killed every day,” Morgan added. Conversely, another resident noted the reckless driving and behaviour of patrons from various neighbourhoods.

James Lounge has a troubled history, having been shut down in 2015 by the district attorney’s office after being labelled a public nuisance. This venue has also witnessed previous violence, including a deadly shooting in 2019 and a security guard being shot in 2020.

This incident marks the second nightclub shooting in Memphis this month, following a shooting at Focuz Lounge just ten minutes away, where four individuals were injured.

Community members are growing increasingly weary of the ongoing violence, with Morgan lamenting, “This is the neighbourhood I grew up in, and it’s sad seeing people get killed all the time.”

This is a developing story, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
