Vice President Kamala Harris raises staggering $500M in her first month as a presidential candidate, a remarkable feat that showcases the strong support she has garnered from over 2 million donors.
A campaign official confirmed that Harris had raised close to the $500 million mark as of Wednesday, with Reuters first reporting the campaign’s success in amassing this substantial amount since Harris entered the presidential race on July 21. This surge in funding came after President Joe Biden’s decision to end his candidacy late last month.
Harris Surpasses Biden’s Entire Campaign in Donor Numbers
Filings revealed that more than 2.4 million donors contributed to the vice president’s campaign in her first 11 days as the Democratic nominee, nearly 200,000 more than the total number of donors who supported Biden throughout his entire campaign.
Since becoming the candidate to challenge former President Donald Trump in November, Harris’s campaign has consistently reported impressive fundraising milestones. The campaign raised $81 million in the first 24 hours after Harris entered the race and an additional $200 million in the week following Biden’s withdrawal.
Harris’s Campaign: Harris Raises Staggering $500M
The Harris campaign’s financial success continued with a $36 million boost in the 24 hours after announcing Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D) as her running mate.
With both parties gearing up for what is expected to be a fiercely fought and costly campaign, Harris’s substantial fundraising puts her in a strong position. In July alone, the Harris campaign raised $310 million and had $377 million in cash on hand, while the Trump campaign reported raising $139 million and having $327 million available.
As the election approaches, Harris’s ability to attract donations from a wide range of supporters, including small-dollar donors, and the enthusiasm generated by her rallies in key battleground states, suggest that her campaign’s financial momentum will continue to grow.
