Memphis Man Charged with Threats Against Biden, Harris, and Obama

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WREG) — A Memphis man is charged with making alarming death threats against President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, and former President Barack Obama, according to the Department of Justice. This serious case has raised concerns about the safety of public officials and the implications of threats made on social media.

Details of the Charges Against the Memphis Man Charged

Kyl Alton Hall, 37, faces two counts of threats against a sitting President and Vice President, along with one count of a threat against a former President. The charges stem from several posts Hall made on “X,” the social media platform previously known as Twitter, on July 27. In these posts, he allegedly threatened to “kill, assassinate, shoot, and crash the plane of President Biden,” as well as to assassinate Vice President Harris and former President Obama.

On August 20, a federal indictment was issued against Hall, highlighting the severity of his actions. If convicted, he could face up to five years in prison for each charge. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Will Crow from the National Security and Civil Rights Unit of the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

This incident serves as a reminder of the ongoing challenges related to threats against public officials and the responsibilities of citizens in maintaining a respectful discourse, especially on social media platforms. The Department of Justice continues to take such threats seriously, emphasising the importance of safeguarding democracy and the individuals who serve within it.
