Fire Destroys Historic North Carolina Home, Leaving Couple  ‘Lost Everything’

ROSEBORO, N.C. (WNCN) — A devastating fire destroys historic North Carolina home, leaving a married couple with nothing. The incident occurred early Sunday morning at a residence on N. West Street in Roseboro, Sampson County, around 2:30 a.m.

Fire Chief Lee Coleman reported that when firefighters arrived, the two-story, over 100-year-old house was nearly engulfed in flames. Coleman, who lives nearby, noticed the fire’s glow from his home and quickly rushed to the scene. Fortunately, the couple was out of town on a fishing trip at the beach, and no injuries were reported.

The couple has tragically lost everything in the fire, which took approximately 90 minutes for firefighters from six different departments to bring under control. The blaze caused significant structural damage, with the second-floor ceiling collapsing onto the first floor, compounding the destruction.

“It was a hard time getting it fully put out,” said Coleman, highlighting the challenges faced by the firefighting crews. Investigators believe the fire may have originated near the electrical box on the side of the home, but the exact cause is still under investigation.

The couple is now displaced and seeking support from the community as they begin to navigate the long road ahead after this tragic loss.
