On September 15, 2024, an apparent assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump occurred while he was golfing at his course in West Palm Beach, Florida. The FBI reported that a man named Ryan Wesley Routh aimed an AK-style rifle at Trump from a distance of approximately 400 to 500 yards. Secret Service agents, who were nearby, responded by discharging their weapons at Routh, who then fled but was later apprehended in a nearby county.
Routh, 58, has a criminal history dating back to 2002 for possessing a weapon of mass destruction. His motivations remain unclear, and he was found with two backpacks and a GoPro camera at the scene. Following the incident, Trump reassured his supporters via social media that he was “safe and well” and expressed determination to continue his campaign activities.
This incident follows another assassination attempt on July 13, 2024, when Trump was shot at during a rally in Pennsylvania, narrowly escaping serious injury.
