Asheville  isolated after Helene wrecked roads and knocked out power and cell service.

Asheville, North Carolina, has been significantly isolated following the remnants of Hurricane Helene, which caused severe flooding and extensive damage to roads, power lines, and cell service. As of Saturday, over 400 roads remained blocked as level of floodwaters  began to increase and reveal the extent of damage. The part of  destruction across southern Appalachia that leaves many residents dead and countless relatives worried unable to communicate with loved ones.

The storm spread terribly  across western north Carolina and eastern Tennessee. Fortunately some people were rescued out through the means of helicopter from the rooftop of a flooded hospital.

Meanwhile the Buncombe county officials said interstate 26 between Asheville and south Carolina has opened but other routes into the city were blocked.

More than 700,000 customers statewide experienced power outages, and authorities reported multiple fatalities. Rescue operations have been complicated by communication breakdowns, with air deliveries of relief supplies underway to assist affected areas.
