SHELBY, N.C. — The iconic Red Bridges Barbecue Lodge in Shelby is temporarily closed after a fire broke out in its cooking pits Thursday night, causing an estimated $30,000 in damage. The beloved BBQ restaurant, a staple in Shelby since 1946, will remain closed until further notice as repairs are underway.

BBQ Restaurant Closes

According to Shelby Fire & Rescue, the fire was contained within the pit area, and no major fire or water damage was reported. Crews swiftly handled the light smoke, clearing it out within 20 minutes. Firefighters received support from the Cleveland Volunteer Fire Department, Cleveland County EMS, and Shelby Police. Thankfully, no injuries were reported.

Restaurant’s Message to Loyal Customers

Red Bridges Barbecue Lodge expressed gratitude to its patrons, assuring them that any pending orders will be contacted once operations resume. The restaurant shared, “Due to a fire that was contained within the firewall, we will be closed until further notice. Thank you for your understanding and support. Stay safe!”
