Biden and Trump Meet for First Time Since Election

WASHINGTON – In a historic moment, President Joe Biden and President-elect Donald Trump met at the White House for the first time since Trump’s re-election, marking a notable step in the peaceful transition of power. The meeting between Biden and Trump lasted about two hours, signalling a substantial discussion on key national issues.

Biden and Trump Meet: An Oval Office Tradition Revived

Unlike after the 2020 election, when Trump did not extend the customary Oval Office visit to Biden, Biden welcomed Trump with a gesture of unity. “We’ll do everything we can to make sure you’re accommodated,” Biden said, reinforcing the importance of tradition and cooperation.

According to White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, the leaders covered “important national security and domestic policy issues facing the nation and the world.” The conversation also included priorities for Congress during the remaining months of the current session, such as securing government funding and advancing major defence and agriculture bills.

Trump’s Capitol Hill Visit with Republicans

Following the White House meeting, Trump joined House Republicans on Capitol Hill for a celebratory gathering. House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) praised Trump’s impact on recent GOP victories, remarking, “We owe him a great debt of gratitude. He is a singular figure in American history.”

While the meeting upheld many traditional aspects of the transition, there was one notable deviation: First Lady Melania Trump did not accompany her husband to the White House to meet with Dr. Jill Biden. However, she sent a handwritten letter of congratulations, demonstrating a personal acknowledgment of the transition.
