Biden’s remarks also included a strong endorsement of Harris’s economic agenda, which aims to tackle issues like housing shortages and expand the child tax credit. He praised her leadership, saying, “She’ll be a president our children can look up to,” and referred to her as “Vice-President-soon-to-be-President Kamala Harris.”

The president did not shy away from criticising Trump, addressing his legal troubles and labelling him a liar. He stated, “Crime will keep going down when we put a prosecutor in the Oval Office instead of a convicted felon,” further emphasising the need for a strong Democratic presence in the White House.

Biden also touched on pressing global issues, calling for an end to the ongoing conflict in Gaza and acknowledging the protests occurring outside the convention. He recognized the protesters’ concerns, stating, “A lot of innocent people are being killed on both sides.”

As he concluded his speech, Biden reflected on his presidency, expressing his love for the job and his country. He ended with a heartfelt message, promising to be “the best volunteer” for Harris’s campaign and reaffirming his commitment to the Democratic cause.

In a poignant moment, Biden hugged Harris on stage, symbolising the passing of the torch to the next generation of Democratic leadership. The emotional atmosphere of the evening underscored the significance of this transition as the party gears up for the challenges ahead in the 2024 election.
