Biden pardons son, saying it is “unfair prosecution”

Washington ( AP)-President Joe Biden has pardoned his son, Hunter Biden, reversing previous commitments not to use presidential powers for family members benefit. The president already said he won’t pardon his son or commute his sentence after his convictions in the two cases in Delaware and California.This comes weeks before Hunter Biden set to receive his punishment after his trial in the gun case and guilty plead on tax charges.

President Biden make this decision and announced this on December 1, spares Hunter from sentencing on federal gun and tax convictions. Biden justified the pardon by claiming Hunter faced unfair political prosecution, stating that he was targeted due to his father’s position. The pardon covers any federal crimes committed between January 1, 2014, and December 1, 2024, nullifying upcoming sentencing hearings scheduled for December. Hunter was convicted in June in Delaware federal court of three felonies for purchasing a gun in 2018, when, prosecutors said he lied on a federal form by claiming he was not illegally using or addicted to drugs.

He said he pleaded guilty, so as to spare his family from, distress, and embarrassment after the gun trial aired a false details about his struggle with drugs addiction
