GREENSBORO, N.C. — Law enforcement officials in western North Carolina are sounding the alarm after several dangerous tire-puncturing devices were discovered on roads in Macon County, prompting safety warnings for all drivers in the area.
Arrowhead-Shaped Devices Found on Multiple Roads
According to the Macon County Sheriff’s Office, deputies recovered several sharp, metal, arrowhead-shaped devices designed to puncture vehicle tires. One of the devices was photographed stuck inside a driver’s tire, confirming the hazard they pose for motorists.
Although deputies did not release the exact location of the discoveries, they emphasized that the devices were found on public roads, where any passing driver could be affected.
“These devices pose a significant risk to motorists, and we are taking this incident very seriously,” the sheriff’s office wrote in a social media alert.
NCDOT Working to Remove Hazardous Devices
The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) has been notified and is actively working with deputies to locate and remove any additional devices from Macon County roadways. Crews are surveying the area to ensure no other drivers run into the same danger.
Officials have not confirmed whether the devices were placed intentionally, but investigators are treating the situation with urgency due to the potential for accidents, flat tires, and roadway emergencies.
Public Asked to Report Sightings or Information
Deputies are urging residents to stay alert while driving and to immediately report anything that resembles the metal tire-puncturing devices. Anyone with information about who may have placed the objects is encouraged to contact the Macon County Sheriff’s Office.
Even one device can cause blowouts, loss of vehicle control, or costly tire replacements, making prompt reporting critical for community safety.
