GREENSBORO, N.C. — One month has passed since Larry Darnell Burton, a 74-year-old man living with dementia, mysteriously vanished from a Greensboro care home. To this day, there’s been no sign of him—and no clear answers.
Burton was last seen around 10:30 p.m. on July 2 at the HMF Family Home Care facility, located on Moody Street. But troubling revelations emerged after his disappearance: the care home was operating without a license and was shut down shortly afterward by the state.
His family has since been searching relentlessly. “We’re just praying that someone has seen him,” said Burton’s grandson, Amare Swift. They’ve organized community searches and posted flyers throughout the city, but leads have gone cold.
According to the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, the facility offered medical and personal care services without legal authorization. State investigators are working closely with Greensboro Police, who say the case remains open and active.
Family Desperate for Answers One Month After Disappearance
The home’s operator, Hazel Forman, has not publicly addressed the incident. State officials have not confirmed if she will face charges, though an investigation into the facility’s conduct is ongoing.
Burton’s disappearance has raised broader concerns about unlicensed senior care homes operating in the region—many of which go unnoticed until something goes wrong.
As each day passes without an update, his loved ones are growing more frustrated. “We just want answers,” said Swift. “We want to bring him home.”
Anyone with information is urged to contact Greensboro Police or Crime Stoppers.
