Greensboro City Council Chaos: Zack Matheny Exposed for Corruption—Vote April Parker for District 3

The March 4, 2025, Greensboro City Council meeting was nothing short of explosive. District 3 Representative and Downtown Greensboro Inc. (DGI) President Zack Matheny found himself at the center of controversy as public speakers Eric Robert and Jason Hicks confronted him over allegations of corruption, cronyism, and conflicts of interest. Matheny’s defensive response only fueled the fire, raising serious concerns about his leadership and transparency.

Matheny’s Meltdown: A Desperate Defense

During the meeting, Robert and Hicks took the podium to publicly call out Matheny, accusing him of leveraging his position for personal and political gain. Instead of addressing the allegations with clarity, Matheny lashed out, demanding that City Attorney Chuck Watts review the meeting footage for “defamatory” statements against him.

“I was a little concerned that the term racist was used,” Matheny said, attempting to frame the accusations as baseless attacks rather than legitimate concerns. He further tried to deflect by accusing Robert of benefiting from over $500,000 in taxpayer funds, calling for an investigation into his financial ties with the city.

But the real question remains—why is Matheny more focused on silencing critics than proving his integrity?

Silencing the Public: A Leader Who Can’t Handle the Truth

The meeting escalated when Crystal Black, a Greensboro resident, attempted to clarify that Matheny had not been “disinvited” from a recent community meeting, as he claimed. Instead, City Council rules prohibit more than three council members from attending certain meetings. Before she could finish, Mayor Nancy Vaughan cut her off, enforcing the rule against audience participation.

This blatant dismissal of public input only reinforced the perception that Matheny and his allies are more interested in controlling the narrative than engaging with the concerns of Greensboro residents.

Accountability vs. Corruption: The Choice is Clear

Matheny’s reaction to criticism speaks volumes about his leadership. Instead of offering transparency, he chose deflection. Instead of engaging in honest discourse, he sought legal action against his detractors. Instead of listening to the concerns of the people, he dismissed them outright.

Greensboro deserves a leader who prioritizes the community over personal interests. April Parker is that leader. As an advocate for transparency, fairness, and community-driven change, Parker stands as the clear choice to replace Matheny in District 3.

Vote for Real Change in District 3

Matheny’s leadership has been marked by controversy, backroom deals, and an unwillingness to engage in real accountability. Greensboro residents deserve a representative who will fight for them, not against them.
