GREENSBORO, N.C. β€” Community Invited to Help Shape the Future of Greensboro Policing

The City of Greensboro is opening the door for residents to take part in one of the most important decisions facing the city β€” choosing the next Chief of Police.

Following the retirement announcement of Chief John Thompson, Greensboro officials confirmed that the city has partnered with the national executive search firm Developmental Associates to lead the selection process. A key part of that process involves gathering input from both police department employees and community members.

City leaders say they want to hear directly from residents about what qualities, leadership style, priorities, and values they expect from Greensboro’s next top law enforcement official.

Three Public Input Sessions Scheduled in November

Residents will have three opportunities this month to attend in-person sessions and share feedback:

πŸ“… Wednesday, Nov. 19

πŸ“ Craft Recreation Center β€” 3911 Yanceyville Street
⏰ 6 p.m. – 8 p.m.

πŸ“… Thursday, Nov. 20

πŸ“ Peeler Recreation Center β€” 1300 Sykes Avenue
⏰ 6 p.m. – 8 p.m.

πŸ“… Friday, Nov. 21

πŸ“ Lindley Recreation Center β€” 2907 Springwood Drive
⏰ 12 p.m. – 2 p.m.

These sessions are open to the public, and all residents β€” including those who live, work, or frequently engage with Greensboro communities β€” are encouraged to attend.

More Meetings Coming in December

City officials also confirmed that additional input sessions will be held in December.
These extra dates are intended to ensure more residents, including those who cannot attend the November events, have an opportunity to voice their expectations for the next Police Chief.

Greensboro leaders emphasize that this feedback will directly inform the national search and guide Developmental Associates as they narrow candidates.

A Chance to Influence Greensboro’s Future

Choosing a new Chief of Police is a major decision that will shape the future of public safety, community trust, and policing strategy in Greensboro for years to come.
City officials strongly encourage residents to participate, listen, ask questions, and share what they believe the city needs most from its next police leader.
