Greensboro Police Shoot Man Accused of Firing at Officers Multiple Times

GREENSBORO, N.C. —  A section of Randleman Road remains closed Thursday morning as officers investigate an officer-involved shooting that occurred overnight, according to the Greensboro Police Department.

Police say officers responded to the 1200 block of Orchard Street at approximately 12:41 a.m. after receiving a call about a domestic situation involving a man reportedly attempting to break into a home and banging on a window.

According to investigators, officers made contact with the suspect in a nearby parking lot. The suspect allegedly fired multiple shots at officers before fleeing the scene in a vehicle.

Authorities say a brief chase followed, ending at the original location on Orchard Street. Police report that the suspect again fired shots at officers before his vehicle came to a stop in the parking lot.

Investigators say that as the suspect exited the vehicle, he continued shooting at officers. Officers returned fire, striking the suspect.

Police then rendered aid and requested EMS. The suspect was transported to a local hospital for treatment. His condition has not been released.

Officials confirmed that no officers were injured during the incident.

Randleman Road is closed between Freeman Mill Road and West Florida Street. Orchard Street is also closed between Randleman Road and West Florida Street while investigators process the scene.

The Greensboro Police Department’s Professional Standards Division is conducting an internal investigation to determine whether department policies were followed. The officers involved have been placed on administrative duty, which is standard procedure in officer-involved shootings.

The investigation remains active and ongoing. No additional details have been released at this time.
