Greensboro’s New City Manager Shares His Vision for the City

GREENSBORO, N.C. (WGHP) — Greensboro’s new city manager, Nathaniel “Trey” Davis, is bringing a fresh perspective and a wealth of experience to his role. Announced as the city’s manager just days ago, Davis is already outlining a clear vision for the future of Greensboro.

Greensboro’s New City Manager Focuses on Growth and Opportunity

“I’ve seen Greensboro grow … I’ve seen that there’s opportunity here like never before,” Davis said, reflecting on his two decades of service with the city. Davis, originally from Butner, North Carolina, started his career as a police officer in Creedmoor in 1996 before joining the Greensboro Police Department in 2002. His steady rise through the ranks led him to the position of assistant city manager in 2019, and now, as Greensboro’s new city manager, he’s ready to build on this foundation.

Davis acknowledges the strong leadership that came before him, recognizing that many positive initiatives are already in place. “I feel tremendously fortunate stepping into this role. There are folks that have been leading in our city ahead of me that have done great work. So there are a number of things that I’ll be able to continue on,” he said.

Priorities for Greensboro’s Economic Development and Public Safety

A key focus for Greensboro’s new city manager is economic development. Davis aims to support the city’s existing businesses while also attracting new opportunities. “I want to make sure that we’re creating opportunities for all to be successful while doing that,” he emphasized.

Beyond economic growth, Davis is committed to public safety and infrastructure improvements. He highlights efforts to maintain Greensboro’s status as one of the safest cities in the region, working closely with both the police and transportation departments. Traffic safety is a significant concern, with Davis noting that the city’s neighborhood traffic safety program is a point of pride. Additionally, plans are underway to potentially reintroduce the red-light camera program to further enhance safety measures.

Commitment to Listening and Community Engagement

A crucial aspect of Davis’s leadership style is his commitment to listening to the community. “This … is a new role, but I’m still me. I’m still who I am, and I want people to know that. So I plan to go into our community, have conversations and … meetings,” Davis shared. With an already packed calendar of community engagements, he’s eager to build connections and understand the needs of Greensboro’s residents.

Focus on East Greensboro, Randleman Road, and Housing Initiatives

Davis’s vision for Greensboro includes a continued focus on areas like east Greensboro and Randleman Road, which city leaders have prioritized in recent years. While acknowledging a decrease in homicides, he emphasizes that safety concerns go beyond violent crime. “Our police department and our transportation department are focusing in areas that we hear people often tell us that are their highest concerns, and that’s the area of traffic,” he said.

Housing is another key area where Davis plans to make an impact. He is already working on innovative partnerships aimed at improving housing options within the city. In the coming months, Greensboro’s new city manager hopes to unveil these initiatives, which are designed to strengthen the city’s housing market and support growth.

Regional Collaboration for Water and Sewer Expansion

Davis is also exploring regional partnerships to expand water and sewer services, a move aimed at spurring economic development not only within Greensboro but also in the surrounding areas. These collaborations are seen as an opportunity to boost the city’s economy and provide long-term benefits to the broader region.
