Police in Raleigh, North Carolina arrested a gunman on Tuesday evening who was roaming around a neighborhood while wearing full body armor and pointing a rifle in “all directions” while looking through the scope.
The incident was reported by multiple calls from concerned residents around 7:15 p.m. along Ward Road near Glenridge Road.
Michael Joseph Chadwick, 31, who lives in the area between Atlantic Avenue and Capital Boulevard, was arrested and charged with going armed to the terror of the public, according to police and arrest records.
Witnesses said Chadwick was “walking around [the] neighborhood with full body armor, gun belt with ammunition, handgun in the holster on his gun belt and rifle with strap across his body.”
“The motive or intent of the subject is unknown at this time,” said Raleigh Police Lt. Jason Borneo in a news release. According to the arrest warrant, witnesses reported that Chadwick “had the rifle pointed in all directions and was looking down the scope.”
Police emphasized the importance of community vigilance in resolving this incident peacefully. “Multiple calls from the community was key to the peaceful resolution to this incident. We are grateful for the public’s vigilance,” Lt. Borneo stated.
Chadwick was held on a $2,000 secured bond on Tuesday night.
The arrest comes just days after a man with a lengthy criminal record was arrested in Florida in connection with an alleged assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump at one of his golf courses
