CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A disturbing incident is under investigation after a hidden camera found at a North Carolina spa led to felony charges against a massage therapist accused of secretly recording a client without her knowledge.

Client Discovers Phone Recording Inside Massage Room

According to Mecklenburg County court records, the incident happened on September 22 at Silent Moments Spa on Park Road. Police say a woman had just completed her massage when she returned to the room to get dressed and noticed a flashing light near a backpack.

Upon closer inspection, she discovered a phone that had been secretly recording. The client quickly airdropped the videos to her own device before leaving the spa and contacting Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police.

CMPD confirmed that the videos showed the suspect setting up the phone to capture footage of the area where the client had undressed. One of the recordings allegedly showed the woman partially unclothed.

Suspect Identified and Arrested

Police identified the suspect as 40-year-old Jarrod Crawford, a massage therapist at Silent Moments Spa since March 2024. Crawford admitted to detectives that he had placed the phone to record the client, calling it “a bad decision” and acknowledging it was wrong.

Court documents also reveal that Crawford had a disciplinary history with the North Carolina Board of Massage and Bodywork Therapy, which placed him on a one-year probation in August 2025 following complaints from clients at other massage businesses.

Ongoing Investigation

Crawford has been charged with felony secret peeping using a photographic imaging device. His phone has been turned over to the CMPD Cyber Crimes Unit for further analysis.

He posted a $10,000 secured bond on Tuesday morning. Silent Moments Spa declined to comment on the situation when contacted and asked reporters to leave the premises.

Some spa clients told Queen City News the incident made them uneasy, with one woman saying she felt hesitant about continuing her scheduled massage.
