2 NC High School Students-Athletes Killed in ATV Crash

TRANSYLVANIA COUNTY, N.C. (WSPA) – In a heartbreaking incident early Sunday morning, two High School Students-Athletes were killed in an ATV crash in Transylvania County. The crash occurred around 1 a.m. on Old Wagon Road, where 16-year-olds Layne Jones and Jayden Reynaldo were riding a four-wheeler.

According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, the young men lost control of the ATV while travelling southbound. Tragically, they veered off the left side of the road and collided with a tree. Both students were pronounced dead at the scene by responding officers.

In the wake of this devastating loss, Transylvania County Schools issued a heartfelt letter to the community, announcing the deaths of the two Rosman High School students.

 The letter expressed the collective grief felt by the community: “Our hearts are broken, and we are grieving together as a community. The loss of such young, vibrant lives is a stark reminder of how precious life is and how deeply we are all connected.”

Both Layne Jones and Jayden Reynaldo were members of the Rosman High School football team, further highlighting the impact of this tragedy on their peers and the community. 

The school and local residents are mourning the loss of these promising young athletes, who were just beginning their lives.
