ICE Officer Fatally Shoots Woman Through Car Window in Minneapolis

GREENSBORO, N.C. — An ICE officer fatally shot a woman through her vehicle’s window during a confrontation in south Minneapolis on Wednesday morning, an incident that has intensified national scrutiny over federal immigration enforcement operations.

Deadly Confrontation on Portland Avenue

The shooting occurred near Portland Avenue and 34th Street when masked ICE officers approached a Honda Pilot stopped in the roadway. Video shared online shows officers shouting commands for the driver to exit the vehicle while attempting to open the door.

As the driver slowly backed up and then moved forward, an officer positioned at the front of the SUV fired three shots. The vehicle continued a short distance before crashing into a parked car.

The woman was transported to Hennepin County Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.

Victim Identified as Minneapolis Resident

Minneapolis City Council members identified the woman as Renee Nicole Good, a 37-year-old Minneapolis resident. In a joint statement, council members described her as “a member of our community” and called for justice and accountability.

Conflicting Accounts From Officials

The Department of Homeland Security offered a sharply different version of events. DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin stated that the driver “weaponized her vehicle” and attempted to run over officers, calling the act “domestic terrorism” and saying the officer fired in self-defense.

However, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey strongly rejected that explanation, calling the DHS statement “bullsh*t” and accusing ICE of creating chaos and distrust in the city.

“To ICE, get the f*ck out of Minneapolis,” Frey said during a news conference, while urging residents to remain peaceful.

Witnesses Describe Chaos After Shooting

Witnesses say the situation quickly escalated after shots were fired. Bystanders reported that emergency responders were delayed because ICE vehicles blocked access to the scene. A physician who identified himself at the scene was reportedly prevented from examining the victim before EMTs arrived.

Protesters later blocked federal vehicles attempting to leave. Officers deployed a noxious gas, causing distress among demonstrators and journalists.

After the area was cleared, mourners placed white roses in the snow where blood had stained the ground.

Investigation Underway

Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara said there is currently no evidence indicating the shooting was justified and confirmed that the woman was not the target of immigration enforcement.

The FBI and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension are jointly investigating the use of deadly force. Local officials, including the Hennepin County Attorney, emphasized the importance of transparency and local oversight.

As investigations proceed, the incident is expected to fuel ongoing national controversy over federal policing, immigration enforcement, and the use of deadly force.
