IHOP server says she was fired after feeding man in need

LAKELAND,FLA.( WFLA)- A Florida IHOP server, Victoria Hughes, claims she was fired after feeding a homeless man who expressed hunger. Hughes who has worked at the IHOP in Lakeland for a decade and three years,said the helpless man walked up to the restaurant and said he was famished. Hughes told NEXSTAR’S WFLA how she quickly brought him pancakes and water.

After purchasing him a meal, Hughes informed her manager, who cited concerns about loitering and safety for other patrons. On Tuesday , Hughes said she received a. Phone call from her manager, stating that she’s fired, she then asked her manger , what might have happened,as reasons for her termination, and he replied, saying “Company Policy”. Hughes who’s kindhearted said she will help those in need again,if she could, despite the consequences, Hughes remains resolute in her action

Following media attention, IHOP’s corporate office offered her a job and compensation for missed days while committing to educate staff on food insecurity issues and donating to local charities. Hughes said she will have to reconsider whether to for the company after the holiday period.
