GREENSBORO, NC — A new chapter in aviation is about to take flight in Greensboro. JetZero, a young aerospace company from California, has announced plans to build a massive $4.7 billion aircraft factory at Piedmont Triad International Airport.
This big project is expected to bring more than 14,500 jobs to the area over the next decade, offering new opportunities for local families and boosting the region’s growing aerospace industry.
A New Kind of Aeroplane
JetZero plans to produce a special type of plane called the “blended-wing body” aircraft. Unlike traditional planes, this design resembles a flying wing more closely than a tube with wings attached. This shape makes the plane more fuel-efficient and quieter than today’s passenger jets.
The first version, called the Z4, could cut fuel use by up to 50% compared to standard jets. It will run on regular jet fuel for now, but JetZero says future models may use hydrogen power to reduce carbon emissions even further.
Largest Job Promise: JetZero to Build $4.7 Billion Aircraft Plant in Greensboro
Governor Roy Cooper and other state leaders say this is the biggest job commitment North Carolina has ever seen. The state and local governments have promised over $2 billion in incentives over the next 40 years if JetZero reaches its hiring and investment goals.
The company will pay an average salary of around $89,000 per year, much higher than the local average.

Why Greensboro?
Greensboro and the surrounding Triad region are quickly becoming a hub for the aerospace industry. Companies like HondaJet and Boom Supersonic are already building planes and parts at the airport. The region offers good weather, open land for big hangars, and a skilled workforce.
State and local officials say this project will help train more young people for advanced manufacturing jobs and attract more businesses connected to the aviation field.
What’s Next?
JetZero plans to start building the factory in 2026. A small test version of the new plane is expected to fly as soon as 2027, with full production happening later this decade.
Once running at full speed, the Greensboro plant could build up to 20 planes every month.
A Big Win for North Carolina
Governor Cooper called this “a game-changing investment” for North Carolina’s future. Local leaders believe the factory will bring new schools, training centres, and local businesses to support the workers and their families.
JetZero’s move puts Greensboro on the map as a leader in building the next generation of cleaner, quieter aeroplanes.
