(THE HILL)– President-elect Donald Trump has nominated Linda McMahon, former CEO of WWE and his transition co-chair, to head the Department of Education.
McMahon is co-leading Trump’s transition team, she was considered a front – runner to lead the department of commerce and Howard Lutnick who was her co-lead is expected to be picked for this role.
McMahon, who had previously led the Small Business Administration during Trump’s first term, from 2017 to 2019, is expected to advocate for expanding school choice and returning education control to states.
Trump in his statement said, Linda McMahon being the US secretary of Education is going to fight tirelessly to expand “Choices” to every state in America,
Trump has expressed intentions to abolish the Department of Education, criticizing it for alleged indoctrination in schools. Critics warn that such a move could disrupt federal funding and support for public education.
