Man Accidentally Shoots Himself at Walmart in Lumberton

LUMBERTON, N.C. (WGHP) — A man accidentally shot himself at Walmart in Lumberton on Monday afternoon, according to police.

Authorities said the incident happened inside the Super Walmart on Fayetteville Road, where an off-duty officer working security heard a gunshot. The officer immediately responded and noticed a vehicle speeding out of the parking lot, prompting a traffic stop.

During the stop, the man admitted that he had accidentally discharged his firearm while inside the store. According to police, he told the officer that he had tucked the gun into his jogging pants without a holster, and when he tried to reposition it, he pulled the trigger through his clothing, shooting himself in the leg.

The man was taken to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, and no one else was hurt in the incident.

Police confirmed that the man accidentally shot himself at Walmart and said the case remains under investigation.
