Man Accused of Killing Girlfriend in Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A 37-year-old man has been charged with murder after allegedly killing his longtime girlfriend in north Charlotte, according to court documents and the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

Officers responded around 6 a.m. Sunday, for a welfare check in the 700 block of Lawton Road. When they arrived, they discovered a woman who had “sustained apparent trauma.” She was later identified as 33-year-old Tabulon Debreshea Reece.

Events Leading Up to the Arrest

According to Reece’s family, she and her boyfriend, Nicholas Gandy, had gone to a club off North Graham Street the night before. Family members say Reece left the club in her Honda Accord and that Gandy later returned to her residence in her vehicle.

Gandy allegedly told the family that Reece had his vehicle, described as a gold four-door Lexus sedan with tinted windows. However, police said the Lexus was not with Reece when she was found.

A Snapchat video posted by Reece around midnight showed her inside the club wearing the same clothes she was later found in. Gandy was allegedly seen in the video with her.

Evidence Recovered by Investigators

Around 4:30 a.m. Sunday, Gandy was reportedly arrested at the Amazon Distribution Center on Old Dowd Road in an unrelated trespassing incident. Detectives later reviewed tow records and discovered that a 2004 Lexus had been towed from the Amazon facility shortly after 7 a.m.

When detectives located the vehicle at a towing company, court records state they found blood inside the Lexus along with a discharged cartridge casing on the driver’s side floorboard. Gandy’s identification card was also reportedly hanging from the rearview mirror.

Based on this evidence, officers arrested Gandy and charged him with murder.
