Man Accused of Murder in Death of 27-Year-Old Woman in Winston-Salem

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — A 22-year-old man has been arrested and is facing multiple charges, including murder, after the shooting death of a 27-year-old woman. According to the Winston-Salem Police Department, the man accused of murder in death of 27-year-old woman in Winston-Salem is now in custody.

On September 11, just after 10 p.m., officers responded to reports of gunfire in the 3900 block of Cullen Street. At the scene, police found 27-year-old Destiny Kamara Tucker, who had suffered a gunshot wound. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators identified 22-year-old Jaheim Bennett as the suspect. On Wednesday, Bennett was arrested and charged with several crimes, including felony murder, misdemeanor possession of stolen goods, felony possession of a stolen firearm, felony possession with intent to sell or deliver cocaine, and felony possession of a firearm by a felon.

Authorities also confirmed Bennett has an outstanding fugitive warrant from New York on three separate charges. Police say Bennett and Tucker “were known to one another,” though the circumstances leading to the shooting remain unclear.

The investigation is ongoing, and Winston-Salem police have not released additional details at this time.
