Man Accused of threatening FEMA workers in Western North Carolina.

RUTHERFORD COUNTY N •C. ( WGHP)- A 44 year old Carolina man named William Jacob Parsons was arrested for allegedly threatening FEMA workers with an assault rifle while they were assisting Hurricane Helene victims in the area of lake lure and chimney Rock. The incident occurred in Rutherford County, prompting a temporary pause in FEMA operations due to safety concerns. Investigators went to the location where the threat was made in polk county to get the description of the suspect vehicle and shared it with other law enforcement.

North Carolina man given a secured bond and released from custody after he had made bond.

Parsons was charged with going armed to the terror of the public and has since been released on a $10,000 bond. Authorities initially reported militia involvement but later confirmed Parsons acted alone. FEMA has made operational adjustments to ensure worker safety while continuing recovery efforts.
