BIRMINGHAM, ALA.( WIAT)-Alabama A&M University football player Medrick Burnett Jr., 20, has died a month after suffering a severe head injury during the Magic City Classic game against Alabama State University on October 26 in Birmingham.

Initially reported stable, Burnett’s death was confirmed by the Jefferson County coroner on Wednesday evening at 5:43pm at UAB hospital. Burnett had sustained multiple brain bleeds from a head-on-head collision during the game, Burnett was a redshirt freshman who previously attended Grambling State University during the 2023 season before transferring to Alabama A&M university. During the season, Burnett had three Solo tackles and two assists with Alabama before his death.
There’s no cause of death listed for Burnett, as test are pending.
