RALEIGH, N.C. – The pageant community is rallying behind Carrie Everett after the Miss North Carolina 2024 winner diagnosed with cancer revealed she is undergoing treatment for a rare and aggressive form of gastric cancer.
Everett, a Seattle native and student at North Carolina Central University, was crowned the 86th Miss North Carolina in June 2024. She held the title for a year before passing on the crown this summer.
Shortly after relinquishing her crown in June, Everett began experiencing bloating and persistent coughing while visiting her family in Seattle. In July, doctors diagnosed her with metastatic signet ring cell carcinoma, a rare and aggressive gastric cancer.
Treatment and Support
Everett remains in Seattle while undergoing chemotherapy and other treatments. Her family has shared that she is fighting with courage and determination despite the difficult prognosis.
A GoFundMe page has been launched to help cover medical expenses and provide financial support during her treatment. The fundraiser has already begun to see strong support from pageant fans, community members, and fellow students at NCCU.
