A heart-wrenching tragedy out of Mooresville has left a community shaken. A young child, innocent and full of potential, is gone—another victim of the deadly fentanyl crisis gripping our nation.
Authorities say Riley Wormington, the child’s mother, is now set to be extradited to Iredell County after police confirmed her child’s tragic overdose death.
Last February, Mooresville officers rushed to a home on Ridge Avenue, responding to a desperate medical call. What they found was every parent’s worst nightmare—a child under two years old, lifeless, after ingesting a lethal dose of fentanyl.
As investigators searched for answers, they discovered Wormington had another child and had moved out of state. But this week, justice caught up with her—she was arrested in Denver, Colorado, now facing multiple charges, including felony child abuse.
This devastating case is a grim reminder of the dangers of fentanyl and the innocent lives lost because of it. How many more children must die before action is taken?
