Southern Pines, N.C. — Authorities in Southern Pines are searching for three suspects after an armed robbery targeting a mail carrier on Wednesday afternoon. The incident occurred around 1:08 p.m. on Elk Ridge Lane, where a postal worker was in the process of delivering mail at community mailboxes.
Details of the Incident: NC Mailman Robbed
According to police, 3 unidentified suspects approached the mailman and robbed him at gunpoint. During the incident, the suspects stole personal belongings, undelivered mail, and other property associated with the U.S. Postal Service. After the robbery, the suspects fled the scene and remain unidentified.
Description of the Suspects
Southern Pines police have released descriptions of two of the suspects involved in the “NC mailman robbed” incident:
- One suspect was wearing a camouflage hoodie.
- Another was dressed in all-black clothing, including a face mask.
Authorities urge residents and businesses in the area to check any security camera footage that might assist in identifying the suspects.
Postal Inspector Requests Public Help
Jessica Adams, U.S. Postal Inspector from the Charlotte Field Office, emphasized the importance of public cooperation in such cases. “Our top priority is investigating violent crimes against USPS employees,” Adams stated. “Anyone with information about these robberies or knowledge of stolen USPS property should contact us.”
The U.S. Postal Inspection Service has urged those with information to call 1-877-876-2455 (say “Law Enforcement”) and reference case number 4400907. Adams assured that all tips will remain confidential. It is important to note that robbing a USPS employee is a federal crime under Title 18, U.S. Code Section 2114, carrying a penalty of up to 25 years in prison.
