
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — An NC man killed woman with unborn child in a tragic 2024 shooting and has now been sentenced to more than two decades behind bars.
According to Mecklenburg County court documents, Dasean Vaughntane Maddox, of Concord, pleaded guilty on Thursday to second-degree murder, murder of an unborn child, and robbery with a dangerous weapon. The charges stem from the November 13, 2024, killing of Jameisha Wilkes in Charlotte’s University City area.
The Deadly Shooting – NC Man Killed Woman with Unborn Child
Police said they responded to a 911 call on Strive Street and found Wilkes shot inside the residence. She was tragically pronounced dead at the scene, along with her unborn child.
Court records reveal Maddox had earlier confessed to a family member that he had been unfaithful and that Wilkes was pregnant. Later that day, he shot her, took her cellphone, and destroyed it by running it over with his vehicle.
Investigators recovered both a firearm and the damaged cellphone during a search of his car. Maddox was arrested shortly after the incident.
Sentencing and Prison Term
On Thursday, Maddox stood before a Mecklenburg County judge and formally entered his guilty plea. He was sentenced to a prison term of 25 to 31 years.
Court documents note that Maddox has already received credit for 294 days served while awaiting trial. He remains in custody and will be transferred to a state prison facility.
